Sarah Williams on Rewriting What Leadership Looks Like

For Women's History Month, Creative Boom gathered five of the women who shaped AIGA New York. Our co-CEO was one of them.

AIGA New York, the country's largest chapter, has been led by women for more than four decades. Creative Boom sat down with five of them: the executive director, three former presidents, and the current one, our co-CEO Sarah Williams.

They weren't there to take a progress lap. The conversation was about who gets to define leadership in the first place. Sarah put it plainly: "For a long time, the industry conflated leadership with a certain kind of loudness." Her alternative is the one we run on. Credibility earned through work and results, depth over volume.
